The 2025 Colfax Che Guevara Communist of the Year Award goes to none other than Representative Andrew Boesenecker of Fort Collins.
Boesenecker has consistently led the charge to strip Coloradans of their rights, and this year, his track record was simply too extreme to ignore.
Here are the top five reasons why he earned this badge of shame:
1. Sheriffs vs. State Control
Rep. Boesenecker made waves by publicly attacking Colorado sheriffs who view themselves as defenders of Second Amendment rights. His criticism wasn’t just rhetorical — he used it as justification to push millions in unfunded mandates. The result? A shift in law enforcement priorities from public safety to the enforcement of sweeping gun control measures.

2. Lifetime Bans for Speech
Boesenecker was a key backer of SB25-086, a bill that proposed lifetime bans from social media for violating any platform policy — regardless of severity. Tied with increased penalties for failing to moderate firearms-related content, this would have opened the door to discrimination against gun owners and free speech concerns on a massive scale.
Fortunately, we killed this terrible bill through intense lobbying from RMGO and our supporters.
3. A Portal to Surrender Your Rights
It gets worse. Boesenecker also led SB25-034, a bill that creates an online portal allowing individuals to give up their right to buy a firearm — no questions asked. Once submitted, it takes 30 days to undo the request, even if made in a moment of crisis or coercion. No hearing. No safeguard. Just another tool to undermine your rights.
4. You Must “Beg” to Buy a Gun
As a prime sponsor of SB25-003, Andrew took his anti-gun crusade a step further, requiring Coloradans to essentially beg for the right to purchase a firearm. Fearmongering about the so-called “unique lethality” of semi-automatic firearms, he spent months lobbying fellow Democrats with fear-driven messaging to rally support for this restrictive legislation.
5. Jail Time for Former Offenders Near a Firearm
And finally, the cherry on top: Boesenecker co-sponsored HB25-1171, a bill that would make it a felony punishable by 1–3 years in prison for nonviolent ex-offenders to be found near an unattended firearm — even long after completing their sentence. The bill was a collaboration with known RINOs in an assault on the rights of free citizens.
At Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, we fight these attacks on freedom— and we call them out by name. Andrew Boesenecker has proven himself to be one of the most dangerous anti-gun legislators in Colorado, and we’ll continue to hold him accountable.
Join us in standing up to extremists like Boesenecker, and let’s make sure no anti-gun radical gets the last word in Colorado.
