Q. Can a sheriff issue a permit to me, even if I don’t live in the area they cover?

A. Yes, if you own a business here.   Only Colorado residents or business owners are eligible for a Colorado concealed carry of handgun permit.   You are directed to apply initially to the sheriff for the county where you reside or own a business.  If you move you renew the permit at the sheriff in your new county.   Colorado has reciprocity with a number of states, so it is possible that if you live out of state your permit from your home state may be honored in Colorado.  CBI’s website has a current list of states with which Colorado has reciprocity.
